Young Writers Camp

An Expressive Writing Workshop for Tweens

Join us for a fun, imagination filled 3-day writing camp designed just for tweens! In this
relaxed and creative workshop, young writers will dream up unique characters, build
their own stories and explore playful writing games that make ideas come alive.
Each day includes quick prompts, group activities, and time to write—no experience
needed. Perfect for kids who love stories—or just need a spark to get started.

No writing experience is needed; this is not about perfect words, but having fun and learning (both about writing and yourself). 

Facilitators

Melissa Pilkey, LMHC
Licensed Mental Health Counselor with 20+ years of experience specializing in women’s issues, trauma, and adolescents. She has developed and directed programs for teens and individuals affected by cancer.

Dr. Elaine Handley
Writer, educator, and believer in writing as a tool for growth and well-being. She has taught adolescents, incarcerated writers, veterans, seniors, and adult learners. Her poetry collection Heartbreak Grass (Kelsay Press, Summer 2026) is forthcoming.
